Residential and Postal Language Courses in North Wales

This is where all residential courses are held. It is an ancient farmhouse one and a half miles from the village of Trawsfynydd in North Wales.

Normally I accept one person at a time and all tuition is individual. Courses consist of 4 hours of very intensive one-to-one tuition each morning from Monday to Saturday. The afternoons are free to relax and/or do some homework. The latter is essential for beginners since I feel that any considerable amount of written practice during to tuition time is rather a waste. Those who already have some knowledge of the language will probably benefit more from getting out in the lovely countryside and I would recommend even those who do need to write to spend some time away from their studies. There is only so much that the mind can take in in a day and a lot of knowledge gets consolidated while you are switched off.

In the evening on most days there is usually a film to be watched in the appropriate language. Except for the English films for foreign students, these all have subtitles. I use some tuition time also to teach expressions from films in preparation to aid comprehension.

The fees include accommodation in the house and all meals. These consist of your choice of breakfast, a light snack lunch and a proper dinner in the evening.

Non-participating partners or friends may stay and amuse themselves during the mornings.

Although group courses are not pre-arranged, it is always possible to arrange for two or three people to come together providing they are at at least approximately the same level. Fees then are on a sliding rule.

I also teach by post or e-mail. For beginners this tuition is standardised for the first three lessons.  This is because the texts from these lessons are provided on a cassette so that the pronunciation can be learnt and practised. Thereafter lessons become more and more individualised according to the requirements of each individual learner.
